Letter to Parents & Carers : January 2021 starting arrangements
It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light..”
Dear Parents and Pupils:
Please continue to follow all COVID advice and restrictions to continue to keep yourselves and others safe over the coming weeks.
As I am sure you are all aware, many changes to our way of life have been made over the Christmas holiday period, beginning with Tier 4 restrictions being implemented on Sunday 20th December.
This was in response to concerns over a new variant of the original Coronavirus, which was leading to increased transmission amongst the community.
On Wednesday 30th December, the Government announced that schools in some Tier 4 areas, including those in Westminster, needed to amend their opening to all children in January.
As a result, from Tuesday 5th January until Friday 18th January 2021, school will only be open to pupils for in-school learning who meet the criteria for Critical Workers or other vulnerabilities.
All other pupils will access online learning from Tuesday 5th January until Friday 18th January 2021. Attendance for all pupils who meet the criteria will be full time from 08:45 until 15:00 Monday to Friday.
Those pupils who have been identified as meeting the Government’s criteria for in-school attendance will be notified by text message today, Friday 1st January 2021. If you receive this text message, your child/ren are expected in school from Tuesday 5th January 2021. All pupils will continue to use the same entrances as before.
Nursery & Reception (Pod 1): Changes to drop off and collection
Parents of Nursery and Reception children will now drop off and collect their children from the main blue gates in the small car park where they would previously have entered, without walking through the playground to the EYFS gates.
A member of the EYFS team will be available at the blue gate at drop-off and collection times.
Breakfast Club will continue to run for those pupils who are eligible for in-school attendance during this period.
After School Club
There will be no After School clubs running from Tuesday 5th January – Friday 18th January 2021. All pupils need to be collected at 15:00 from the main school gates.
All children eligible for in-school learning need to wear their full school uniform each day.
Teaching and Learning
All classes will be taught by their normal class teacher each day, and all existing learning Pods will continue as they were prior to the Christmas break, including playtimes and lunches.
Since the last partial closure of schools, the Department for Education (DfE) has revised its remote learning expectations. They now expect that children who are accessing remote learning, will be set a minimum of three hours learning each day.
As part of our remote learning plan, timetables for each group will be posted online on Monday at 14:00. Please note that teachers will live stream daily lessons, via Google Classroom, for Maths, Reading and Writing each day. Those children working from home will be able to login and join the lesson each day, completing all work into their books at home (these are to be collected from school on Monday 4th January – see section below).
They will be able to engage and ask questions in each lesson, with class projects being set for the afternoons, which do not require pupils to be online. Information on these will be shared as part of our Remote Learning Plan, uploaded to the school website on Monday 4th January 2021.
Pupils in school will continue to have school dinners provided.
For those pupils who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), vouchers will be available each week from the school office.
Vouchers for the week beginning Tuesday 5th – Friday 8th January 2021, will be available for collection between 10:00 & 14:00 on Tuesday 5th January. These must be collected on this day and are eligible for the 4 days of this week only.
Due to this unexpected announcement, we require you to collect learning resources for your child/ren, to enable them to respond to online work from home.
We are asking that those families who will be accessing on-line learning come to school and collect an envelope of resources for your child/ren to use at home. This includes their Maths, Reading and Writing books, a project book, pencil case and their new reading text for the start of term.
These will be available for collection from the main school office Monday 4th January, from 10:00 to 16:00.
If you believe you meet the criteria for critical workers or other vulnerable criteria and haven’t received a text message inviting your child into school on Tuesday 5th January, please contact the school officer between 10:00 and 14:00 on Monday 4th January.
Please contact the school office from 10:00am on Monday 4th January if you have any further queries and continue to check the school website for any further updates over the coming days and weeks.
Wishing you all a Happy New Year and a safe start to 2021.
Ms Yvonne Barnett
