Run Kids Run 2025: Well done everyone!

What a wonderful afternoon we had at the Battersea Park Running Track on Sunday 8th June. Thank you to everyone who joined us to take part in the Run Kids Run fundraising event.
An impressive 66 pupils and 24 adults took part in this event, with everyone successfully completing their set age group distances.
Thanks for everyone’s commitment and we are so grateful for the wonderful donations made by supportive family and friends. To date, we have raised an amazing £2180.00 on our Just Giving Page and from donations left at the school office.
A HUGE thank you to everyone involved. We are aware some still intend to make their donations, therefore we will continue accepting donations to the Just Giving Page and via the school office until the Thursday 26th June.
Please feel free to share our Just Giving Link as widely as possible as every donation will go towards raising much-needed funds for our school.

What are we fundraising for?
After a successful fundraising campaign for the EYFS and KS1 pupils last year, the playground seating has been purchased and the sandpit is being installed this May.
Therefore our 2025 project focus is for our KS2 pupils, to build a dedicated comfortable seating area (similar to the one in the KS1 playground) as well age appropriate creative, construction and games based resources.
This will include sensory planters, which will support and develop the work undertaken by our Gardening Club.
We need to raise £8300 for this project. All donations can be made at:
You can seek sponsorship from as many friends, family & neighbours as possible, as every donation will go towards raising funds for our school. Don’t forget that our next fundraising event will be the Summer Fair on Saturday 12th July.

Our Corporate Sponsor:
In 2024, when we were selected to join this wonderful initiative, we were partnered with OPLM (Old Park Lane Management).
OPLM will be supporting us with various whole-school projects, starting with School Council visits to their Millbank construction site, and a collaborative art project to design images for the hoarding, plus other opportunities for our pupils’ artwork to take centre stage!
Their representatives will be leading a whole-school assembly before the Easter break, where they will introduce themselves, their roles, industry and the construction project they’re currently working.
We will keep you updated, as projects and visits develop and take place.

Jungle Book: What amazing performances!

Year 3 and 4 pupils amazed everyone with their fantastic performances of The Jungle Book KIDS, this week. As part of the Disney Musicals in Schools project, after many weeks of hard work, rehearsals and preparations, they finally took to the stage, showcasing their incredible talents in front of their peers, teachers, families and friends.
The show was filled with brilliant singing, lively choreography and colourful costumes – all brought together through the dedication and teamwork of both the children and staff involved. From energetic monkeys and a hypnotic snake, to a brave man-cub and a fearsome tiger, every child embraced their role with confidence and enthusiasm.
It was wonderful to see the children grow throughout the process, developing not only their performance skills but also teamwork, responsibility and self-confidence. The excitement and joy on their faces during each show was a true reflection of their hard work and commitment.
A huge well done to everyone involved for creating such a memorable and magical experience. We are incredibly proud of our young performers and thankful for the support from staff, families and the school community who helped make this production such a success!
Swimming Lessons: Years 3 – 6

We are delighted to announce that swimming lessons will begin again this term, for pupils in Years 3 to 6.
- Year 4: Weeks beginning 9th and 16th June
- Year 5: Weeks beginning 23rd and 30th June (no swimming on Friday 27th June as it is an INSET day)
- Year 6: Weeks beginning 7th and 14th July
These lessons are an important (and statutory) part of the national curriculum and provide an opportunity for pupils to develop key skills and knowledge about water safety and learning basic swimming skills and strokes.
All swimming lessons will take part at the Queen Mother’s Sports Centre. Classes will complete their lessons in blocks (6 consecutive lessons over two weeks), instead of one lesson per week (over 6 weeks).
This arrangement ensures pupils have the best chance to consolidate and make the most of their lessons, with the opportunity to build on learning over sequential days, as opposed to having a week between each lesson.
On the weeks that your child’s class is swimming, they will need to wear their bathing costume to school with their PE kit over the top. They also need to bring in a bag; a towel, underwear and goggles, plus a cap (if they choose to use one).
Children will change into their PE kit after each lesson and put their towel and bathing suit in their bag to return to school.
Pupils will swim on Tuesday, Wednesday & Fridays of each week. They will walk to and from the pools with their class teacher and Mr Raheem.
If you have any questions or queries about your child’s swimming lesson, please contact the office to arrange a time to meet with a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
Burdett-Coutts Summer Fair
Our next school fundraising event will be the Summer Fair, which will take place on Saturday 12th July from 12:00 until 4:00 pm.
There’ll be an exciting range of stalls including games, bouncy castle plus food and refreshments available to purchase on the day, and we’re very much looking forward to welcoming everyone!
If you would like to provide a food plate (similar to what we did at our recent International Evening), please inform the office via email or please come in person to speak to Ms Ilhan.
All donations and provision of food items will be passed onto our school’s PTA The Friends of Burdett-Coutts.

Online Safety

Did you know that not all apps are safe for children, with many popular ones having certain age restrictions. For example, WhatsApp, Tik Tok, Instagram and Facebook operate a minimum age of 13+ years, and therefore primary school children should not have their own, nor access to, such apps or accounts.
As parents, you can help safeguard your children online by researching these apps and their purposes, as well as their age restrictions, BEFORE agreeing to download them. If you do choose to download them, remember that parental controls such as password protection, can be set up so that in-app downloads or purchases, cannot be completed by the children themselves.
For example, to prevent iTunes, Apple App Store purchases or downloads, all you need to do is:
- Go to Settings and tap Screen Time.
- Tap Content & App Privacy Restrictions. If asked, enter your passcode.
- Tap iTunes & App Store Purchases.
- Select a setting and set to Don’t Allow.
Tips on how to install parental controls on other apps and devices (Android or Apple) can easily be found online, or even from the app developers themselves.
Funding eligibility letter for Pupil Premium, Early Years Funding & Free School Meals

Due to changes in the eligibility criteria for Pupil Premium, Free School Meals and qualifying for 30 hours of funding for Nursery provision, many pupils currently enrolled at our school may now be entitled to one of these funding allocations.
We will be issuing letters to families who are currently not in receipt of the above, asking you to complete the registration for the identified funding option your child/ren maybe eligible for. Thank you so much in advance for your help in completing this.
This funding allows us to increase additional staffing hours to run booster groups, and an exciting range of extended day activities, that benefit our school and your child, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated at this difficult time for school budgets.
- If you should have any queries with regards to the letter sent to you, please contact Mrs Deary or the school office.
Preschool:

Preschool have loved exploring their musical expression inspired by the core text “The Drum“. Children took turns to create beats for their peers to dance to and using their own recycled shakers to express their movements. Experimenting with musical instruments promotes physical, social, emotional and sensory development.
Nursery:

Nursery have started getting ready for Father’s Day by making cards for our dads, uncles and grandads. The children really enjoyed the creative process, especially having their feet painted to make a footprint rocket. They took great care in decorating their cards with bright colours and thoughtful messages. It was a lovely way to celebrate the important people in their lives, and they were all very proud of their finished creations.
Reception:

Reception have had a very exciting introduction to musical instruments – many for the very first time! During our Music lessons with Mr Carden, pupils had the opportunity to explore both the ukulele and the keyboard. There was such a buzz of excitement as little fingers strummed strings and tapped keys, discovering new sounds and rhythms. Experiences like these are a wonderful way to develop listening skills, fine motor control, and confidence through creative expression. Music plays such a valuable role in early learning, and it was a joy to see their faces light up with pride and curiosity.
Year 1:

It has been a very creative week for Year 1. We have enjoyed creating beautiful art inspired by nature, gardens and animals. Through our Science unit, we have been learning lots about environments and animals, which inspired us to design our very own garden creations! In Writing, we have been exploring The Snail and The Whale. Pupils have done a fantastic job creating their own versions of the story, including a problem and a solution.
Year 2:

This week, Year 2 read The Journey Home by Frann Preston-Gannon, a powerful story that follows endangered animals forced to leave their homes when their habitats are no longer safe. One character, the Dodo, gently reminds them that they can only return once their environments are protected and sustainable. Children quickly realised what happened to the Dodo and the story became a meaningful reflection on what could happen to other species if we don’t take care of our planet.
As Writers, children focused on writing to inform. After learning the key features of information texts, they researched a habitat of their choice – using books, videos, and online sources – and drew on their scientific knowledge from our topic on Living Things and their Habitats. They then created engaging, fact-filled reports to educate others about these precious environments and the animals who call them home.
Year 3:

Year 3 have started a new Maths topic looking at shapes and angles. We have discussed quarter, half and three-quarter turns and rotated some shapes. We have looked at right angles and started to draw some using a ruler correctly. We have begun our new Science topic ‘Why can’t we see in the dark?‘, sharing interesting observations about different sources of light. We would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who has attended our Disney shows this week! Year 3 and 4 have worked very hard and we are so pleased to finally be sharing this show with you.
Year 4:

Year 4 have had a really busy week. Thank you to everyone who attended our Jungle Book performances; the performers were absolutely amazing, and the audiences’ enthusiasm made it even more special. We also started swimming lessons, and it was great to see everyone growing more confident in the water. A reminder to please wear your swimming kits under uniforms on Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week. In RE, we’ve finished our topic on Judaism, and exploring traditions like Shabbat. We’re now beginning our new topic on Christianity and looking forward to learning more about key stories and beliefs. It’s been a busy and exciting week, and we’re so grateful for all your continued support!
Year 5:

It’s been another great week for Year 5, diving further into new topics and novel for this half term. Pupils are enjoying their reading sessions and discussing the main protagonist and his motives. The class are currently writing a character description, to be finished next week. In Science, we are learning more about the solar system and have discussed the shape of planets, and why we have night and day. Pupils have revisted their prior learning on the solar system and are asking some brilliant questions to extend their learning. We’re also thrilled that our climate change posters were selected to showcase, and are now proudly in place at a new building being built in Piccadilly Circus.
Year 6:

This week in Science, we have been learning all about refraction. Refraction is the bending of a wave (like light or sound) as it passes from one medium to another. This bending occurs because the wave changes speed as it enters the new medium. We discovered that when we placed a straw in a glass of water, it appeared bent, because of refraction. The light traveling from the straw through the water bends as it enters the air, making the straw appear bent at the surface.
