OurCamps work in direct partnership with councils and Local Authority partners to make attending camp FREE for free school meal children and affordable for all others. They believe that everyone deserves a great experience during the holidays and their camps are exclusively for pupils at the school where the camp is being held.

This year, they’ll be hosting the Burdett-Coutts Winter Camp 2022 from 19th to 22nd December at 10am until 2pm, daily. Depending on numbers, activities may include gym/dance, arts & crafts, themed days, Warhammer, skateboarding, experiments, physical activity, creative free play and more!

If your child is not entitled to benefits related FSM, or is in Nursery or Reception they can still join in for £20.00 per day.

KS2 Nativity Play – What a Show!

Year 4 and 5 performed brilliantly in the Nativity play ‘Sheik, Rattle and Roll‘. The main parts were shared between Al Khalili and Jemison Classes, while Newton and Curie Classes supported with the singing. Everyone sang beautifully and played their roles perfectly! Massive thanks to Mr Carden for his excellent musical direction, as always.

Here are some comments from children about the show:

It was very fun and lovely to see everyone’s parents watching us!” – Daniel
It was very nerve-wracking at first but once you get to know your lines you get used to it.” – Ali
It was a good opportunity to sing on stage and dancing. It was very entertaining” – Sofia
I loved the Sheik, Rattle and Roll part because it was funny the way they introduced themselves” – Lola
It was fun!‘ – Fahad
My favourite part is when we say Glory to God in the Highest because it was fun to sing with the actions.” – Sarina

Nine Lessons and Carols: Friday 9th December 2022

The whole school walked across to the impressive St. John’s Smith Square on Friday morning to celebrate Christmas with a lovely Nine Lessons Carol Service. The Campanology Club opened the service with two handbell renditions of well-known carols. The 9 Lessons, a mix of Bible readings and poems, were read by a range of pupils and staff, and the choir led the singing of the carols beautifully.

Thank you to the staff of St John’s for allowing us to use this wonderful space for our carol service; to Graham and Helena from St Stephen’s; to Stephanie Pattenden for transporting the precious handbells and supporting the campanologists; and of course, to Mr Carden for all his musical leadership and the organ music that closed the service. A special thank you also to the parents who joined us – it is always so lovely to share these special events with our families.

Year 4 Trip:

On Monday 5th December Year 4 went to visit Westminster Abbey. It was wonderfully informative and we learnt so much about the history of The Abbey. We looked, in particular at the many Christian symbols and images which has been our focus in R.E. and this has been valuable for our learning.

If you are looking for a Nursery  or Reception Place, for your child from September 2023, please contact the school and make an appointment to join a school tour.

We’d be delighted for you to join us for a 30-minute bespoke EYFS tour, where you will have the chance explore our Early Years setting, speak to key staff and ask any questions regarding admissions and your child starting with us at Burdett-Coutts.

Please contact us to register for our tours which take place every Thursday, with times available from 09:30 – 14:30 during term time.

Funding eligibility letter for Pupil Premium, Early Years Funding & Free School Meals

Due to changes in the eligibility criteria for Pupil Premium, Free School Meals and qualifying for 30 hours of funding for Nursery provision, many pupils currently enrolled at our school may now be entitled to one of these funding allocations.

We will be issuing letters to families who are currently not in receipt of the above, asking you to complete the registration for the identified funding option your child/ren maybe eligible for. Thank you so much in advance for your help in completing this.

This funding allows us to increase additional staffing hours to run booster groups, and an exciting range of extended day activities, that benefit our school and your child, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated at this difficult time for school budgets.

  • If you should have any queries with regards to the letter sent to you, please contact Mrs Deary or the school office.

Nursery:

We have been focusing on celebrating ourselves this term and Nursery children have been focusing on their names. They were most excited to show off their name writing skills, using chalk on black paper which really highlighted their newly acquired skills!

Reception:

This week Reception have had a visit from a very naughty elf! We received a letter from Father Christmas asking us to keep an eye out for an elf who has gone missing from his workshop. We have been writing beautiful sentences about what he has been up to so that we can send them to Father Christmas. We will keep you updated on any more of his mischievous activities!

Year 1:

Are you ready to party? Next week is our nativity play and we getting ready for an action packed afternoon of fun. We have been very busy making parts of our costumes and practising lots of singing this week!

Year 2:

In Year 2, we have been learning all about Geometry in our Maths lessons. We have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes and are now able to describe some of their properties using language such as side, curved, edge, face and vertex. This week we have also been learning about symmetry and discussed what examples of symmetry they could see in the world around them; we recognised that butterflies are symmetrical. Next, we moved on to investigating symmetry of 2D shapes and finding their lines of symmetry. We used our knowledge of vertical lines of symmetry to complete shapes, by firstly plotting their vertices, before joining them up to create the shape.

Year 3:

This week we have been creating different Christmas decorations for our class tree. We created two types of decorations – one with Christian aspects of Christmas and one with non-Christian aspects of Christmas. We then had lots of fun decorating our tree!

Year 4:

Our focus in Art this term has been light and dark. We have explored the techniques of tinting and shading to create 3D effects and are learning how to blend colours. We then tried to apply these to still life composition. We looked at how artists create compositions around themes by using a collage type effect using objects of importance to the subject. I think we may have some budding artists!

Year 5:

On Thursday we celebrated Christmas Jumper Day to raise money and awareness for Save The Children. We learnt about the many children around the world who are less fortunate than us and looked at the work that Save The Children does. We had a fun day listening to Christmas music and making our Christmas baubles, and we feel very festive now! Seasons greetings to everyone!

Year 6:

This week Year 6 went ice skating at Somerset House as an acknowledgement of all their exceptionally hard work across the term. We had so much fun and enjoyed helping one another around the rink. We all showed great determination and teamwork, displaying many of the same attitudes that we have been showing towards our learning. What an exhilarating day!
