2-year old Pre-school Provision

We are excited to confirm that we will be offering 2-year old provision from September 2023.

If you would like to reserve a space for September 2023, please collect an application pack from the school office as soon as possible and return this, along with your deposit, to secure your place.

Please note that places are limited and we’ve already had a strong response from in-school families. School families have a week to sign up before the offer for places is advertised more widely across the borough.

If you know of friends or family currently on a waiting list for a 2-year old place but who are not attending our school, please ask them to make contact with the school.

Year 6 Parent Transition Coffee Morning

Change can be challenging and as we look ahead to the final weeks at Burdett-Coutts for our Year 6 pupils, it’s understandable that there are mixed feelings of excitement as well as nervousness.

To help, we are hosting a parent coffee morning workshop for all Year 6 parents and carers to discuss everything related to ensuring a smooth transition to secondary school. This coffee morning will be in addition to a whole-class workshop and four smaller group sessions for the pupils.

The coffee morning will be on Thursday 15 June @ 9:00-10:00 in school. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, raise any concerns about managing your child’s worries and the best tips for a smooth secondary school transition.

A Royal Celebration: The Coronation of King Charles III

To celebrate the upcoming coronation of King Charles III, we will be having a special Coronation Lunch on Thursday 4 May.

This will be followed by traditional playground games and high tea in the afternoon.

Pupils are invited to come to school dressed in their most regal and royal fancy dress costumes on this day, or possibly dressed as a knight,  squire or jester.

Let your imaginations go – we can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Travel restrictions:

  • From 3rd – 7th May there will be travel restrictions, including road closures & bus diversions.
  • Please check TFL to plan for any extra time needed to get to & from school on time

Are you getting to school on time?

A huge thank you to all of our families who are in school everyday and arrive on time! It is important that your child attends school every day and on time. Arriving late to school is unsettling for children and disrupts the start to their day.

Our school day starts at 09:00, and all pupils need to be in school by 08:55, to ensure that they are ready for learning at 09:00. Teachers are waiting in classes with learning ready to start at this time.

The main pupil entrance (gates) will open at 08:45 and will close at 08:55. After this time parents will need to bring their child/ren via school office. Please ensure your child is in school before 08:55.

From the February Half Term you will need to sign your children in if entering through the office. The time of entry and reason for lateness will be noted.

We are carefully monitoring attendance and punctuality as we have noticed an increasing trend of both becoming a pattern for some families.

Routines are the easiest way to ensure your child attends school on time every day, so try to create good routines for the start of your day, particularly if mornings are hectic in your household.

Try and prepare as much as possible the night before, and ensure that older children are taking much more responsibility for their readiness for school.

Did you know?!

  • 10 minutes late every day = 33 hours lost learning each year!
  • Lateness and absence has a significant impact not only on your child’s learning, but also others, as teachers may have to re-teach late arrivals to ensure they can participate in the lesson.

Angela Burdett-Coutts Day

On Wednesday we celebrated the birthday of Baroness Angela Burdett-Coutts, whose birthday was on April 21st. If she was alive now, she would be 209 years old! We were treated to a wonderful performance of the Angela Burdett-Coutts production by Year 4, with singing help from Year 6. Year 4 took us through the highlights of Baroness’ illustrious life, including all of the amazing charities she set up and her founding of both our school and St Stephen’s Church.

Thank you to all the parents who attended. Everyone agreed that it was an amazing show and the children performed it wonderfully. Year 4 were headlining the show and ably supported by our wonderful Year 6 singers and musicians. The costumes were great and the children did a grand job learning their lines which were delivered with clarity and volume and at some points much humour!

Well done to all students and a HUGE thank you to Mr Carden, whose support is as always, invaluable. If you’d like to find out more about the Baroness, who was a truly incredible person, please go to this page on our website >

September 2023: Nursery & Reception places available

If you are looking for a Nursery  or Reception Place, for your child from September 2023, please contact the school and make an appointment to join a school tour.

We’d be delighted for you to join us for a 30-minute bespoke EYFS tour, where you will have the chance explore our Early Years setting, speak to key staff and ask any questions regarding admissions and your child starting with us at Burdett-Coutts.

Please contact us to register for our tours which take place every Thursday, with times available from 09:30 – 14:30 during term time.

Funding eligibility letter for Pupil Premium, Early Years Funding & Free School Meals

Due to changes in the eligibility criteria for Pupil Premium, Free School Meals and qualifying for 30 hours of funding for Nursery provision, many pupils currently enrolled at our school may now be entitled to one of these funding allocations.

We will be issuing letters to families who are currently not in receipt of the above, asking you to complete the registration for the identified funding option your child/ren maybe eligible for. Thank you so much in advance for your help in completing this.

This funding allows us to increase additional staffing hours to run booster groups, and an exciting range of extended day activities, that benefit our school and your child, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated at this difficult time for school budgets.

  • If you should have any queries with regards to the letter sent to you, please contact Mrs Deary or the school office.

Nursery:

The start of a new term means a fresh display! Nursery’s budding artists discussed what colours to use for their curriculum studies display Traditional Tales. They opted for pinks, purples and oranges and spent an afternoon painting an expression of what we feel when we read stories with our favourite people.

Reception:

In Reception we have been learning about Eid. We learnt about why Eid is so important to Muslims and how it is celebrated around the world. We talked about our own experiences and how we celebrate with our families. We then organised our own Eid party. We made decorations and had Moroccan pancakes and Moroccan tea made by Miss Rachida. We finished our celebrations by creating jewellery with colourful beads.

Year 1:

In Art, Year 1 have been learning about sculptures. What is a sculpture? What can sculptures be made from and the difference between 2D and 3D? We made our own paper tube tower sculptures by rolling paper into tubes, gluing and attaching them to a base for our sculpture to keep them standing. We worked in pairs so also needed to consider space on the base for our buddy as well.

Year 2:

In RE, Year 2 have been learning about what it means to belong. They explored the concept of belonging, the feeling experienced when one is loved and accepted for who they are. They discussed feeling welcomed and understood when you are surrounded by people who love and accept you. When you belong, you feel like you are in the right place. And where there is mutual understanding and support, there is a feeling of belonging. The pupils then reflected on who and what they belong to eg: a religion, family, schools and clubs etc. Then also discussed how the feeling of belonging is inside them, but they might get a stronger sense of belonging when they are in their actual classroom/school or other special place.

Year 3:

In PSHE, Year 3 are learning about relationships. They have revisited the different expectations and roles within the family home and identified why stereotypes can be unfair and inaccurate eg: mothers being carers while fathers go to work. They have examined careers and why stereotypes can be unfair in this context. Pupils will then explore online relationships through gaming and apps and introduced to important rules for staying safe online. They will also learn that they are part of a global community and investigate the wants and needs of other children who are less fortunate than themselves.

Year 4:

It has been a busy – but FUN – start to our Summer Term. On Tuesday, we had a very enjoyable Eid celebration with Years 5 and 6. It was a great opportunity to everyone from different faiths, and none, celebrate this wonderful time of year. Everyone enjoyed themselves and behaved well. Happiness is our RE Big Question this term and it was a nice way to witness how we experience happiness and celebration, even during difficult times.

Year 5:

This week in Jemison Class we have been thinking about religious celebrations, in particular Eid which is a very important time in the Islamic calendar. We celebrated with an Eid party across Years 4, 5 and 6. Everyone enjoyed sharing this celebration! We can’t wait to start learning about Hinduism in RE this half term!

Year 6:

This week, Year 6 came together with Years 4 and 5 to celebrate Eid and as a treat for working hard during the build up to our SATS. We had fun listening to traditional Islamic music, eating lots and having fun with our friends.
