Friday 21st March: Year 5 Trip to Ealing Gurdwara
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the Ealing Gurdwara. The class were so respectful, and used their knowledge from the last half term to answer many questions the staff gave us. The children also asked great questions to further their knowledge and we ended our trip with a traditional langar.

Parents & carers, you will be able to sign up via the Arbor App from Monday 31st March.

A reminder email will be sent from the school office on Friday afternoon (28th March).

Science Week

Early Years Foundation Stage:

Early Years embraced the spirit of Science Week with an exciting hands-on investigation into materials and change. Inspired by our core text, Bog Baby by Jeanne Willis, the children explored the magical world of slime—just like the mysterious blue creature from our story.

Through mixing and experimenting with different ingredients, we discovered how liquids and solids can combine to create something completely new. The children observed the way slime stretched, oozed, and changed shape, sparking conversations about textures, transformations, and even habitats – just like how Bog Baby needed the right environment to thrive.

Our scientific exploration didn’t stop there. We made connections to the natural world, discussing how insects and creatures in real-life ponds rely on their surroundings, much like Bog Baby. The children loved getting hands-on with their learning, and their curiosity led to fantastic discussions about nature, materials, and the wonders of science.

Science isn’t just about experiments – it’s about curiosity, discovery, and asking “What happens if…?” This week, our young scientists certainly embodied that spirit!

Key Stage 1:

Year 1 and 2 worked together to explore how animals adapt to their habitats. They designed their habitats and their own unique creatures, thinking carefully about how they would survive in environments such as the Arctic, ocean, rainforest, desert and savanna. It was fantastic to see both year groups collaborating – helping each other, sharing ideas and working as a team. From animals with thick fur to keep warm in the Arctic to creatures with clever ways to stay cool in the desert, the children showed amazing creativity, curiosity and scientific thinking.

Key Stage 2:

The theme of this year’s Science Week was Adaptation and Change.  Years 5 and 6  came together to explore the changing role of technology throughout time. We explored the different technological advancements, ranging from medicine and transport  to the changes in electrical appliances within our homes. The children then chose an area which interested them, researched and presented their findings as they wished. They worked well in their groups, and it was lovely to see them working collaboratively and productively, confidently sharing their learning.

Run Kids Run 2025

We are thrilled to announce that once again, we have registered to participate in Run Kids Run on Sunday 8th June in Battersea ParkRun Kids Run is a registered charity helping primary school communities connect with long term corporate benefactors, through a fun running event that promotes a healthy body and mind, while fundraising for our school!

How does it work?
All pupils from Nursery to Year 6 can register to compete in this fundraising event. Nursery & Reception will complete a 1km run, with a parent, and Years 1 – 6 will complete a 2km run. Older siblings can also take part, making it a fun day for all the family.

Then get training and fundraising! After the Easter Break, we will offer an in-school (for pupils only) running club as part of the Summer Term Extended School Day Menu of options. A Just Giving page will also be set up, making donations and sponsorships easy for everyone.

Then on Sunday 8th June, bring your child/ren to Battersea Park from 2 – 4pm. The children will run their races and on completion, will receive an exclusive medal and healthy snack.

You can seek sponsorship from as many friends, family & neighbours as possible, as every donation will go towards raising funds for our school.

Official registration forms will be online following the Easter Break but in the meantime, a preliminary sign-up sheet will be in school office from Monday 24th March. This is for parents/pupils to indicate their intention to participate, as well as to let us know how many are attending the running club after the Easter Break.

Our Corporate Sponsor:
In 2024, when we were selected to join this wonderful initiative, we were partnered with OPLM (Old Park Lane Management).

Like us, they are excited to be working in collaboration with our school community to bring about positive changes, through a vibrant and ambitious partnership for the benefit of the young people and wider groups who live in our local community.

OPLM will be supporting us with various whole-school projects, starting with School Council visits to their Millbank construction site, and a collaborative art project to design images for the hoarding, plus other opportunities for our pupils’ artwork to take centre stage!

Their representatives will be leading a whole-school assembly before the Easter break, where they will introduce themselves, their roles, industry and the construction project they’re currently working. We will keep you updated, as projects and visits develop and take place.

Online Safety

Did you know that not all apps are safe for children, with many popular ones having certain age restrictions. For example, WhatsApp, Tik Tok, Instagram and Facebook operate a minimum age of 13+ years, and therefore primary school children should not have their own, nor access to, such apps or accounts.

As parents, you can help safeguard your children online by researching these apps and their purposes, as well as their age restrictions, BEFORE agreeing to download them. If you do choose to download them, remember that parental controls such as password protection, can be set up so that in-app downloads or purchases, cannot be completed by the children themselves.

For example, to prevent iTunes, Apple App Store purchases or downloads, all you need to do is:

  1. Go to Settings and tap Screen Time.
  2. Tap Content & App Privacy Restrictions. If asked, enter your passcode.
  3. Tap iTunes & App Store Purchases.
  4. Select a setting and set to Don’t Allow.

Tips on how to install parental controls on other apps and devices (Android or Apple) can easily be found online, or even from the app developers themselves.

Funding eligibility letter for Pupil Premium, Early Years Funding & Free School Meals

Due to changes in the eligibility criteria for Pupil Premium, Free School Meals and qualifying for 30 hours of funding for Nursery provision, many pupils currently enrolled at our school may now be entitled to one of these funding allocations.

We will be issuing letters to families who are currently not in receipt of the above, asking you to complete the registration for the identified funding option your child/ren maybe eligible for. Thank you so much in advance for your help in completing this.

This funding allows us to increase additional staffing hours to run booster groups, and an exciting range of extended day activities, that benefit our school and your child, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated at this difficult time for school budgets.

  • If you should have any queries with regards to the letter sent to you, please contact Mrs Deary or the school office.

Preschool:

This week our Preschoolers enjoyed the delightful story, The Itsy Bitsy Bunny. They brought the adventure to life with fun, hands-on activities outside, where they hopped, balanced, and weaved their way through an obstacle course, all while carefully carrying a basket of “eggs” to the other side. This exciting challenge helped them practice gross motor skills, coordination, and balance in a playful way. It was a wonderful blend of movement and storytelling.

Nursery:

In Nursery, we’re focused on celebrating our wonderful mothers. We spent time talking about all the special things our mums do for us and thought of different ways to show our appreciation. The children had lots of fun making heartfelt Mother’s Day cards and painting beautiful portraits of their mums for our special Mother’s Day service. It was a lovely way to honour and thank the incredible mothers in our lives!

Reception:

Reception have been busy investigating 3D shapes! They began by exploring the differences between 2D and 3D shapes, sorting them into groups and discussing their properties. The children then became shape detectives, hunting for 3D shapes in our classroom environment – spotting cubes, cylinders, and spheres in everyday objects all around them. Through hands-on activities and discussion, they are deepening their understanding of how shapes exist in the world around them, building strong foundations for their mathematical thinking.

Year 1:

Year 1 have been having a blast in Maths, exploring the exciting world of measurement. They’ve been using various objects to compare and measure lengths and have learnt how to measure with both non-standard objects and centimetres. The hands-on activities have helped them develop a strong understanding of measurement while having fun at the same time!

Year 2:

Year 2 have been learning about Mother’s Day and how it is celebrated around the world. We discussed how this special day is a time to show appreciation for the people who love and care for us. While for many, this is their mother or grandmother, we also acknowledged that some children may celebrate foster parents, siblings or other special figures in their lives who support and cherish them. To express their gratitude, the children decorated beautiful tote bags as a heartfelt gift for their mums. They also shared their favourite memories – going on park walks, baking together, watching movies or simply spending quality time – and reflected on the importance of having someone who loves and values them unconditionally.

Year 3:

Year 3 has been working very diligently this week. In Writing, we are writing letters based on Aesop’s Fables, Mouse and Lion and Town and Country Mouse. For Maths, we have been focusing on fractions, looking at unit fractions and how we can order fractions with different denominators, as well as how we can compare fractions with the same denominator and different numerators. In RE, we are becoming very confident discussing miracles versus scientific explanation and are looking forward to applying this knowledge next week when discussing Easter.

Year 4:

Year 4 have been busy with lots of exciting activities and hard work! In Writing, we’ve been creating vivid and imaginative descriptions of Willy Wonka’s factory, diving into the magical world of chocolate. In Maths, we’ve been mastering decimals, and we’re now working with hundredths – pushing our number skills to new heights. During Science Week, Year 4 joined forces with Year 3 to explore the fascinating world of antigens, learning all about how our bodies defend against germs. The entire class have been working incredibly hard on their end-of-term assessments, and we’re all ready for our exciting trip to the Natural History Museum next week, ahead of a well-deserved Easter break to recharge for more learning ahead. Keep up the great work, Year 4!

Year 5:

This week we have been completing a range of assessments, and it’s been great to see the areas of strengths the children have. We celebrated British Science week and spent Tuesday and Friday with Year 6. We completed learning about change and adaptation of technology over the years. It was interesting to see the history and timelines of some of the most used things in our day to day lives.

Year 6:

This week in English we have been focusing on descriptive writing based on our class text ‘Skellig‘, using ISPACE as our guide. ISPACE is an acronym used to remind children about the different ways they can start a sentence to make their writing more exciting and they certainly did that. The children produced some engaging pieces and really enjoyed their learning. Happy Reading!
