Easter Fair

A HUGE thank you to all the parents, carers and visitors who attended our Easter Fete on Wednesday this week. The event was a great success, with the sun was shining, although a very chilly breeze – just to remind us we are not yet in Summer ☀️🙂

We had such amazing feedback from all who attended. Thanks to your generous support, together we have raised an amazing £895.00!

I would like to extend a special ‘thank you’ to all the parents, staff and other family member helpers, who assisted in the setup, pack up and preparation of this event. Your help and support is very much appreciated and you are all superstars!

Please keep an eye on future editions of our newsletter for FOBC meeting dates and key events planned for the Summer term.

Easter Bonnet Competition

Well done to everyone who entered our Easter Bonnet Competition this year. Both children and adults showed unbelievable creativity and we had the most amazing submissions. They were truly wonderful!

It’s so lovely seeing all the beautiful displays on the bonnets, especially given how different each of them are. It’s been a really tough task judging them – it was so hard to choose – but in the end our judges were able to arrive at a decision.

Congratulations to all our winners, and well done once again to everyone who entered. We hope you have the opportunity to show off your wonderful bonnets over the Easter weekend.

Out and About….

Tuesday 1st April: Year 2 Trip to London Zoo
As part of our Science unit, Animals (Including Humans), and our Geography topic, Around the World in 80 Days: Kenya, Year 2 embarked on an exciting trip to London Zoo. Taking bus 88, the children eagerly anticipated the adventure ahead. At the zoo, we were fascinated by the incredible animals we encountered. We watched a hippo enjoying a soak in its bathtub and learnt about the giraffe’s unique spots – not only do they provide camouflage, but they also help regulate body temperature by acting as thermal windows! The children were amazed to see monkeys leaping from place to place, the majestic tigers prowling and the three one year old lions resting in the sun. A highlight of the day was hearing the powerful roar of the male lion echoing through the zoo.

We also saw vultures spreading their wings, penguins gracefully swimming and diving at Penguin Beach and playful otters scurrying around their enclosure. One of the most magical moments was walking through Butterfly Paradise, where beautiful butterflies flew freely around us, sometimes fluttering so close we could almost touch them! At lunchtime, we enjoyed a sunny picnic together, sharing laughs and our favourite moments of the day. After lunch, we had an exciting close-up encounter with a curious Komodo dragon, who seemed just as interested in us as we were in him! Throughout the trip, the children demonstrated excellent behavior, showing kindness, curiosity and respect for the animals, staff and each other.

Tuesday 1st April: Year 5 Trip to Regents Park
On Tuesday Year 5 spent the day at Regent’s Park completing a menu of outdoor learning activities. We looked into renewable energy and then had to observe and document an appropriate area in Regent’s Park that would have the least disruption. The children used a variety of equipment to record wind speed, amount of light and wind direction. A very enjoyable day in the sun and lots of learning too!

Wednesday 2nd April: Year 4 Trip to The Natural History Museum
Year 4 had a terrific day out at the Natural History Museum, where they explored a variety of fascinating exhibits. Students learnt about the forces of nature, from volcanic eruptions to earthquakes, and discovered the incredible history of extinct birds and mammals. The highlight of the day was the engaging workshop where they used screen microscopes to examine real arthropods (creepy crawlies!) up close. It was an educational and fun-filled trip that I’m sure the children will remember.

Parents Evening

Our next Parents Evening will take place on Thursday 1st May.

Parents & carers, you will be able to sign up via the Arbor App from Monday 31st March.

A reminder email will be sent from the school office on Friday afternoon (28th March).

Year 6 Parents SATs Meeting

KS2 SATs exams for Year 6 pupils will begin on Monday 12th May.

To support our pupils as they prepare for this crucial public exam, we request the attendance of all Year 6 parents & carers at an important meeting on Tuesday 29th April at 09:00 in the Ground Floor Hall.

The meeting will cover essential information for both you and your child, including the process & timings during exam week, how best to support your child during this time etc. The meeting will last approximately 30 minutes.

Thank you in advance for your attendance.

Run Kids Run 2025

We are thrilled to announce that once again, we have registered to participate in Run Kids Run on Sunday 8th June in Battersea ParkRun Kids Run is a registered charity helping primary school communities connect with long term corporate benefactors, through a fun running event that promotes a healthy body and mind, while fundraising for our school!

How does it work?
All pupils from Nursery to Year 6 can register to compete in this fundraising event. Nursery & Reception will complete a 1km run, with a parent, and Years 1 – 6 will complete a 2km run. Older siblings can also take part, making it a fun day for all the family.

Then get training and fundraising! After the Easter Break, we will offer an in-school (for pupils only) running club as part of the Summer Term Extended School Day Menu of options. A Just Giving page will also be set up, making donations and sponsorships easy for everyone.

Then on Sunday 8th June, bring your child/ren to Battersea Park from 2 – 4pm. The children will run their races and on completion, will receive an exclusive medal and healthy snack.

You can seek sponsorship from as many friends, family & neighbours as possible, as every donation will go towards raising funds for our school.

Official registration forms will be online following the Easter Break but in the meantime, a preliminary sign-up sheet will be in school office from Monday 24th March. This is for parents/pupils to indicate their intention to participate, as well as to let us know how many are attending the running club after the Easter Break.

Our Corporate Sponsor:
In 2024, when we were selected to join this wonderful initiative, we were partnered with OPLM (Old Park Lane Management).

Like us, they are excited to be working in collaboration with our school community to bring about positive changes, through a vibrant and ambitious partnership for the benefit of the young people and wider groups who live in our local community.

OPLM will be supporting us with various whole-school projects, starting with School Council visits to their Millbank construction site, and a collaborative art project to design images for the hoarding, plus other opportunities for our pupils’ artwork to take centre stage!

Their representatives will be leading a whole-school assembly before the Easter break, where they will introduce themselves, their roles, industry and the construction project they’re currently working. We will keep you updated, as projects and visits develop and take place.

Community Corner

Our Easter Service on Wednesday was a very dramatic affair, with Graham acting out the story of Jesus’s arrest and crucifixion, interspersed with songs from the choir and congregation.

All of the children, from the smallest to the biggest (and the adults too), enjoyed the performance depicting Jesus’s arrival in Jerusalem with huge palm fronds carpeting the floor of the church; the Last Supper; Jesus’ betrayals by Judas and Peter; and the decision of Pontius Pilate to crucify Jesus.

As we head into the Easter break, we wish all our families a very Happy Holiday.

Online Safety

Did you know that not all apps are safe for children, with many popular ones having certain age restrictions. For example, WhatsApp, Tik Tok, Instagram and Facebook operate a minimum age of 13+ years, and therefore primary school children should not have their own, nor access to, such apps or accounts.

As parents, you can help safeguard your children online by researching these apps and their purposes, as well as their age restrictions, BEFORE agreeing to download them. If you do choose to download them, remember that parental controls such as password protection, can be set up so that in-app downloads or purchases, cannot be completed by the children themselves.

For example, to prevent iTunes, Apple App Store purchases or downloads, all you need to do is:

  1. Go to Settings and tap Screen Time.
  2. Tap Content & App Privacy Restrictions. If asked, enter your passcode.
  3. Tap iTunes & App Store Purchases.
  4. Select a setting and set to Don’t Allow.

Tips on how to install parental controls on other apps and devices (Android or Apple) can easily be found online, or even from the app developers themselves.

Funding eligibility letter for Pupil Premium, Early Years Funding & Free School Meals

Due to changes in the eligibility criteria for Pupil Premium, Free School Meals and qualifying for 30 hours of funding for Nursery provision, many pupils currently enrolled at our school may now be entitled to one of these funding allocations.

We will be issuing letters to families who are currently not in receipt of the above, asking you to complete the registration for the identified funding option your child/ren maybe eligible for. Thank you so much in advance for your help in completing this.

This funding allows us to increase additional staffing hours to run booster groups, and an exciting range of extended day activities, that benefit our school and your child, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated at this difficult time for school budgets.

  • If you should have any queries with regards to the letter sent to you, please contact Mrs Deary or the school office.

Preschool:

Preschool have been loving exploring all things Easter this week. From Easter artwork to sensory tubs, and Easter egg hunts, the children have loved every aspect of it. They explored their sense of touch, while laughing and engaging in meaningful conversations as they investigated the tubs.

Nursery:

Nursery have had a wonderful time celebrating Easter! The children enjoyed a variety of activities, all focused on Easter. One of the highlights was using Play-Dough to work on their fine motor skills. They had fun pinching, rolling, and shaping the dough to create their own little baby chicks!

Reception:

Reception have embraced the joy of Easter with a magical small-world sensory experience! The children explored a beautifully decorated Easter-themed tray, filled with speckled foam eggs, wooden eggs, delicate flowers, pom-pom bunnies, and even some festive eggs lovingly decorated at Christmas. But hidden among the treasures was a truly special surprise – handcrafted bunnies, made especially for them, just waiting to be discovered!

As they played, the children were filled with wonder and excitement, carefully searching through the tray and delighting in their discoveries. The sight of these little bunnies nestled among the Easter treasures sparked so much joy, creating a moment of pure childhood magic. This experience wasn’t just about Easter – it was about curiosity, imagination, and the thrill of discovery, all of which are at the heart of what we do in Early Years. Moments like these remind us of the simple joys that make learning so special.

Year 1:

Year 1 have had lots of fun learning about Poetry. We have explored different types of poems and had a go at performing some. The children have enjoyed creating rhyming words together, while having lots of fun with some interesting rhyming sentences!

Year 2:

This term, Year 2 have taken on the role of Geographers, exploring the diverse landscapes, wildlife and culture of Kenya. They have studied the country’s human and physical features, using maps, atlases, photos and digital tools like Google Earth to enhance their understanding. As part of their learning, the children discovered Kenya’s key geographical features, from its vast savannahs and national parks, to its incredible wildlife. They learnt about the Maasai Tribe and compared their way of life to life in the UK. To showcase their knowledge, they created detailed lapbooks filled with facts, pictures and maps, and designed their own national parks or wildlife reserves, while considering how to protect animals and nature.

Year 3:

Year 3 have been learning the poem ‘Legend‘ by Sue Hardy-Dawson, which tells of a magnificent rat. First, they learnt the poem in sections and then performed it! Videos of the pupils performing these sections can be found in our Google Classroom. They have written simile poems about the rat using ‘like‘ and ‘as’, which helped them to write their own versions of the poem. In Maths, pupils have finished up the first part of their fractions learning, ready to get stuck back into it next term. Have a lovely, restful Easter holiday, where hopefully you can all enjoy some sunshine!

Year 4:

Year 4 have had a brilliant week, with their descriptive Writing coming along well and wrapping up the first half of their decimals learning. Our big lesson was about tracking the journey of a cocoa bean across the world! We used longitude and latitude, atlases and Google Earth to figure out the clues to where the bean was headed next. It was so much fun! A huge thank you to all of Year 4 for their hard work this term. The fun and dedication shown in their learning has been so impressive. Enjoy the holidays and have a well deserved break – we’ll see you soon for an even more exciting and focussed Summer term.

Year 5:

This week we’ve finished our book ‘Floodland’, which featured an emotional and surprise ending with a twist! The class have worked hard on learning about climate change linked to this text and have completed information reports and letter writing from various perspectives. It’s been a great book to discuss and for the children to use to make connections to their everyday life. We are also wrapping up our Geography units about Spain, Chile and coastal areas by making a leaflet.

Year 6:

In RE, we have continued to investigate our key question, ‘How do Muslims show commitment to God?‘ To help us answer this question, we have been learning about the five pillars of Islam and this week we looked at Zakat, the third pillar. Every year Muslims give up a share of their savings to help those in need. It is thought that when someone helps another in this way, they become cleansed from selfishness and greed. The children then researched an Islamic charity of their choice, focusing on its aims and current appeals.
