Any orders received after Thursday 11th will not be guaranteed delivery in time before we close for the Christmas holidays.
Year 5 Poetry Reading at the Lighting of the Christmas Tree in Trafalgar Square

Earlier this term, Year 5 had the exciting opportunity to take part in a poetry workshop led by the award-winning poet Coral Rumble, who authored this year’s poem for the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree lighting. During the workshop, the children were taught how to craft a range of poems themed around light and fireworks, building their skills and creativity in preparation for writing their own Christmas poetry.
Coral worked with five schools across Westminster – from these she would select three pupils from one school to perform her poem at the official lighting of the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree. The entire class threw themselves into the workshop with huge enthusiasm and dedication.
In the end Coral selected our Year 5 class, and choose Nuraa, Andrew and Nirvaan to be the performers! Over several practice sessions, she supported the children in learning exactly how the poemm should be brought to life, helping them refine their actions, delivery and confidence.

On the day of the event, Andrew and Nirvaan started their morning with an interview on BBC Radio – both spoke confidently and brilliantly about their experiences. Later that day, all three travelled to Trafalgar Square to rehearse, meet the media and soak up the excitement of the occasion.
Backstage, Miss Polly and Ms Probert were privileged to sit with them as they prepared for their big moment – taking photos, sharing their excitement and enjoying celebratory churros with chocolate sauce.
The pupils were interviewed by BBC News, all of them handling the experience with maturity and confidence. Then during the ceremony, the children’s families, Ms Barnett, Mrs Li Rosi, Miss Polly and Ms Probert proudly watched from the VIP section.

When their time came, Nirvaan, Nuraa and Andrew performed the poem flawlessly, earning heartfelt praise from members of the public, many of whom said it was the highlight of the entire event.
After the performance, the children were thrilled to meet the Lord Mayor of Westminster, who congratulated them on their outstanding contribution.
We are incredibly proud of our three talented young performers and of the entire Year 5 class, who worked so hard during the workshop and supported their classmates so beautifully. Thank you to the parents for joining us and sharing in this unforgettable moment.
Well done, Nuraa, Andrew and Nirvaan – Burdett-Coutts is so proud of you!
KS2 Nativity Performance

This week, KS2 lit up the stage with their heart-warming production of the traditional story, Babushka.
Every actor and singer performed with such confidence and energy that the hall was filled with pride from the very first scene. Their hard work over the past weeks truly paid off!
We were also delighted to be welcomed by Vicar Graham, who opened the afternoon with a thoughtful introduction and closed with a prayer, bringing a special sense of community and reflection to the event and the festive season.
The response from friends and family was overwhelming; so many commented on the children’s talent, teamwork, and professionalism. If Tony Awards were being handed out, KS2 would have needed an extra-large trophy table!
A huge well done to all involved for making this year’s nativity such a joyful and impressive experience!
Children’s Christmas Lunch

Our School Christmas Lunch will be on Tuesday 9th December. Please see the menu below.
Children are welcome to wear their Christmas jumper on this day.
Parents & carers of those children with a packed lunch, if your child(ren) should prefer to have a Christmas Lunch instead on this day, please inform the school office by Wednesday 3rd December.
Kindly note there is £3.00 charge for the meal, which can be paid at the school office.
A Gift of Joy

A further thank you to those families who have dropped in gifts for this initiative over the week – we are so grateful for your support.
Our PTA volunteers, along with school staff, will be wrapping and labelling all gifts donated during the week beginning 15th December. We will continue to accept donations of gifts to pass to a local charity working with families affected by homelessness, during this Christmas festive season.
You can continue to drop off any donations until Tuesday 16th December. A dedicated area is available for families to leave a donated gift for this cause. Your gift could be a toy, book, board game or item of clothing.
You can choose to wrap your gift and attach a gift tag identifying whether the gift is for a boy or girl and the intended age it is for. Alternatively, you can drop the donation into school where we will wrap it and add the tag.
Thank you for your support and the donations received to date.

1. Pupil Medications
A polite reminder to parents and carers that we are unable to give over the counter or prescription medicines to pupils unless they have an agreed medical plan in place.
Should your child requires medication to be taken 3 times per day due to winter season illnesses, please give them their doses before school, after school and before bed time.
Alternatively, if you’re able to do so, you can pop into school during your child’s lunch break (12:30 – 13:30) to administer a midday dose if required.
Please do not put any medications, creams, ointments etc in your child’s book bag. This can be very dangerous for other pupils or adults who may have allergies or if other children access these items.
If you have any questions, please email the school office and a member of staff will get back you. Many thanks for your understanding with this important Health & Safety issue.
2. Pupil Permission Forms for Trips
Parents & carers, please ensure that when pupil trip letters are sent home requesting permission for trips or visits, that you correctly read and complete the forms attached and return them to school by the date requested.
When forms are returned late, it is a challenge to manage and accurately provide the required confirmation / information to venues – which are usually requested 48 hours in advance. Furthermore:
- Our admin and catering teams face additional pressure to prepare lunch orders and first aid.
- These are difficult to amend at the last minute, and it also pulls them away from other duties & responsibilities they have.
- Teachers are also unable to assign group pupil:adult ratios to ensure a smooth trip briefing with other staff/parents supporting the trip.
Because of this, pupils will miss out on attending a trip if the correct permission slips are not returned by the designated deadline. Instead they will be assigned appropriate class work to complete in a supervised buddy class.
Many thanks for your understanding and support with this matter.
3. No Lip Balms
Please note that lip balms are not permitted in school.
Despite regular reminders, pupils often share these amongst their friends, which can lead to the spread of colds, flu and coldsores. These items also cause disruption and arguments, both in the classroom and the playgrounds, leading to interrupted teaching time and wasted time in resolving disputes.
If your child has a medical condition which requires any form of topical medication – such as a lip balm – please contact the school office so an appointment can be made with the school nurse. This will activate the appropriate protocols allowing designated pupils to be able to access this properly while in school.
Many thanks with your support in this.
School & PE Uniform:

Please ensure that your children are wearing the correct school uniform to school each day. It is important that all pupils are also wearing the correct school shoes – which are black shoes, and not trainers.
The Autumn/Winter term uniform options for pupils in Nursery to Year 6 are:
Girls:
- Dark grey trousers, skirt or skort
- Long-sleeve white shirt (Years 3 – 6)
- White school logo polo shirt (Nursery – Year 2)
- Tie (Years 3 – 6)
- V-neck navy school logo jumper (Years 3 – 6)
- Navy logo school sweatshirt (Nursery to Year 2)
- Blazer (Year 6 only)
- Plain black shoes (not trainers)
Boys:
- Dark grey shorts or trousers

- Navy school logo sweatshirt (Nursery to Year 2)
- Blazer (Year 6 only)
- Plain black shoes (not trainers)
On PE days, pupils must wear the school PE kit only.
This is especially important for safety. Having the correct shoes for physical activities, and clothing that is not restrictive, for completing physical activity are essential for helping us to ensure pupils complete all PE lessons safely.
The Autumn/Winter term PE kit for all pupils from Year Reception to Year 6 consists of:
- A school navy logo t-shirt
- Navy leggings, tracksuit bottoms or skort (no logos etc)
- Plain black trainers
- A school logo sweatshirt (not the v-neck jerseys for KS2 pupils. Sweatshirts are available from the school office in KS2 sizes).
Please note that pupils who do not have the correct PE kit will not be able to participate in their PE lesson. They will be given alternate work to do, and a note will be sent home highlighting why they were not able to complete their lesson that day.
We thank you in advance in supporting our school’s uniform policies.

Online Safety

Did you know that not all apps are safe for children, with many popular ones having certain age restrictions. For example, WhatsApp, Tik Tok, Instagram and Facebook operate a minimum age of 13+ years, and therefore primary school children should not have their own, nor access to, such apps or accounts.
As parents, you can help safeguard your children online by researching these apps and their purposes, as well as their age restrictions, BEFORE agreeing to download them. If you do choose to download them, remember that parental controls such as password protection, can be set up so that in-app downloads or purchases, cannot be completed by the children themselves.
For example, to prevent iTunes, Apple App Store purchases or downloads, all you need to do is:
- Go to Settings and tap Screen Time.
- Tap Content & App Privacy Restrictions. If asked, enter your passcode.
- Tap iTunes & App Store Purchases.
- Select a setting and set to Don’t Allow.
Tips on how to install parental controls on other apps and devices (Android or Apple) can easily be found online, or even from the app developers themselves.
Funding eligibility letter for Pupil Premium, Early Years Funding & Free School Meals

Due to changes in the eligibility criteria for Pupil Premium, Free School Meals and qualifying for 30 hours of funding for Nursery provision, many pupils currently enrolled at our school may now be entitled to one of these funding allocations.
We will be issuing letters to families who are currently not in receipt of the above, asking you to complete the registration for the identified funding option your child/ren maybe eligible for. Thank you so much in advance for your help in completing this.
This funding allows us to increase additional staffing hours to run booster groups, and an exciting range of extended day activities, that benefit our school and your child, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated at this difficult time for school budgets.
- If you should have any queries with regards to the letter sent to you, please contact Mrs Deary or the school office.
Preschool:

This week, Preschool embarked on a fun adventure of discovery, inspired by the book Dear Zoo. The children were eager to explore the concept of big, medium, and small and how things around them can fit into these categories. With curiosity sparking their imaginations, they gathered items from the room, examining each one closely to decide where it belonged. From oversized blocks to tiny toys, they learned to group objects based on size, building their understanding of the world in a hands-on, interactive way. It was a wonderful example of how simple exploration can spark both learning and creativity!
Nursery:

With it being the first week of December, Nursery were excited to jump straight into the festive spirit! At the art table, the children enjoyed decorating colourful Christmas lights, dipping their pom-poms into paint to add bright, festive patterns. They explored different textures and colours, all while strengthening their fine-motor skills. We’re looking forward to even more festive crafts and Christmas activities as we head further into December!
Reception:

This week, Reception have been busy making magical letters for Santa. They carefully drew pictures, added their Christmas wishes, and wrote kind messages. We can’t wait to take the letters to the post box very soon and see what special reply Santa might send back. Alongside this, we have really enjoyed getting into the Christmas spirit by learning Christmas carols and playing them on the xylophone and glockenspiel.
Year 1:

Year 1’s storytellers have been absolutely enchanted by Beegu. After designing brand-new friends for Beegu last week, the children took the next step and began creating their very own new stories for her. We shared the book together as a class, talked about Beegu’s feelings, and they then began drafting the first pages of their stories — complete with expressive drawings, speech, and lots of imagination. It’s been wonderful watching them think like real authors and illustrators. We can’t wait to see their final published pieces… we may have a few future Oliver Jeffers in Year 1!
Year 2:

Year 2 have been very busy Historians stepping back in time to 1666 as part of our topic on The Great Fire of London! After learning how the fire started in a bakery on Pudding Lane and how it spread so quickly through the wooden houses, the children put themselves in the shoes of Londoners from the past. This week, they wrote letters to King Charles II , explaining what happened during the fire, how it began, and how people tried to stop it. The children used fantastic descriptive language to bring the events to life. Well done Year 2!
Year 3:

It’s been another busy and fantastic week in Year 3. Assessments are well under way and the pupils are taking this in their stride. Our Egyptian non-chronological reports have been published after a long research and writing process – everyone has done a brilliant job of their reports. They are proudly up in our classroom for all to read. Maths continues to be put multiplication focus and we are enjoying learning how to skip count in 3s and 4s. We had the most fun creating our Christmas display last week based on the movie The Nativity. They worked incredible hard and if you’ve not seen it already, be sure to check it out!
Year 4:

Year 4 have been working so hard with their Nativity, and our RE learning has matched up so well. Before going onto making their Christingles at the end of the term, we’ve been learning about other Nativity symbols. In Writing, we’ve been focussing on pronouns and possessive apostrophes – ask us this week about the difference between possessive and reflexive pronouns! Our Maths work has been all about the 12 times table, which we are learning using our 10x and 2x.
Year 5:

In Maths, Year 5 continued developing their understanding of comparing and creating equivalent fractions by converting them to make calculations easier. In English, they’re reading The Adventures of Odysseus while exploring how they might adapt Chapter 5 using descriptive language and grammatical features. In History, they’ve been learning about the Ancient Olympics, discovering that only men could compete and exploring unusual events like the pentathlon and the combat sport pankration. We also used primary sources to find out how the games were run such as looking at pictures on pottery. In Science, we looked at how our bodies change as we grow and prepared for the big reveal of our baby photos. We’ve also been practising our Nativity songs and are excited to perform on Friday.
Year 6:

As Mathematicians this week, Year 6 have been strengthening their understanding of fractions. They’ve learnt to simplify fractions using common factors, compare and order them by finding common denominators or using bar models; and confidently adding and subtracting both proper fractions and mixed numbers. The pupils also explored multiplying and dividing fractions using both abstract methods and visual models. To finish, they applied their learning to multi-step word problems, choosing efficient strategies and ensuring answers were simplified and accurate.
