All Year 6 parents and carers are warmly invited to our Secondary Transfer Meeting on Thursday 17 September, from 09:00–09:45 in the Ground Floor Hall.

We will guide you through the admissions process for starting secondary school in September 2027 and share information about school visits taking place over the coming weeks.

There will be time to ask questions and clarify any information Mrs Deary has already shared by email. Where possible, we will also help with queries about completing the online application and uploading supporting documents.

Please remember:

• Apply online via www.eadmissions.org.uk.
• The deadline for on-time applications is Saturday 31 October 2026.

On Thursday 17 September, all pupils are invited to wear jeans as part of our non-uniform day in support of Jeans for Genes.

The Jeans for Genes campaign raises money to support children and families across the UK affected by genetic conditions. Taking part is a simple way for our school community to come together and help make a difference to their lives.

Please bring a gold coin donation (£1 or £2) on the day. Donations can be handed in at the school office or collected at the playground gate as children arrive in the morning.

Thank you for your generosity and for helping us support this important cause.

Thank you to all our pupils, parents and carers who have organised book bags for the new school year. Your help in looking after our books keeps them in good condition for many children to enjoy.

Looking after our books:

• Book bags are for books and newsletters only. Please keep water bottles, clothing and other items separate. This helps books stay flat and protects them from spills, torn pages and damage.
• Please bring book bags and books to school every day. The books children take home are also used in their reading or writing lessons. We have one copy per pupil, with no spares available, so children need their books with them for lessons.
• Books can only be sent home if your child has their book bag.

When do books come home?

Library books: Class library sessions begin in the week beginning Monday 14 September, with pupils choosing a library book to bring home each week. For younger children, these are books to share and read with an adult. Please remember that the previous library book must be returned before a new one can be issued.

Class reading books: From the week beginning Monday 21 September:

• Years 3–6 will bring home their reading books.
• Years 1 and 2 (KS1) will begin bringing home their Read Write Inc. reading books.
• Reception pupils will bring home their Read Write Inc. books once they have met their assessment targets. This is usually after the October half term, and a letter will accompany the books with further information.

Thank you for helping us care for our books and encouraging your child’s reading at home.

We warmly invite all parents and carers to our Open Morning on Thursday 24 September.

From 08:45–09:30, you are welcome to accompany your child into their classroom, explore their learning environment and meet the teaching team. It’s a lovely opportunity to share a little of your child’s school day.

Please remember that teachers won’t be able to have detailed discussions about individual children or their learning during this session. If you would like a separate appointment, please email the school office so we can arrange this.

After visiting the classrooms, we would love you to join our Macmillan Coffee Morning, running from 09:00–10:00 in the Ground Floor Hall, hosted by our wonderful Friends of Burdett-Coutts, our Parent Staff Association (PSA).

Come along for refreshments and a catch-up with other parents and carers while supporting an important cause. All proceeds and donations from the coffee morning will go directly to Macmillan Cancer Support.

What a busy first full week back! I’ve loved meeting our new pupils, especially all our new Preschool friends. Thank you for the hugs and tummy rubs. You’ve certainly kept my tail wagging!

PE lessons are back too, and it’s been great enjoying Coach Raheem’s activities. Retrieving beanbags and balls is one of my special skills! 🐶

On my morning playground patrols, I’ve spotted quite a few lost jumpers and other bits of uniform. Even my clever nose can’t always work out who they belong to! Parents and carers, please remember to label all your child’s uniform, including ties. With the warm weather, jumpers and sweatshirts are often coming off by playtime. A name label helps our lovely staff return everything to the right children.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend! If you visit a park, have fun running around and playing in the autumn leaves. Just watch out for those prickly conker shells!

Year 2 have had a fantastic first week back! We have explored what it means to be part of our class community, celebrating kindness, belonging and what makes each of us unique. The children created their own community houses and colourful torn-paper portraits. It has been lovely to see everyone settling in, and we are excited for the year ahead.

Welcome back to school and to Year 3! It has been a joy to get to know your children and begin learning together. We are practising our routines and expectations each day to help everyone settle in and learn well.

In maths, we have started our place value unit, while in history, we have shared what we already know about the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages. In science, we have explored how our skeletons support us, having great fun using masking tape to mark where we could feel our bones.

Friday is our library day, when children will receive a book for their home reading, to be logged in their reading record. Spelling tests also take place on Fridays. The words come from the shared Year 3 and 4 statutory spelling list and can feel tricky at first. We will keep practising and revisiting them throughout the year, building confidence and celebrating progress along the way.

Year 4 have had a busy and exciting week! In maths, we have strengthened our understanding of place value, while in history, we have begun exploring the spread of the Roman Empire. We have also set up a science experiment to investigate tooth decay. Our writing text, Leon and the Place Between, has transported us into a magical world, inspiring some wonderful character descriptions. Alongside our learning, we have been getting to know our new classmates and settling into Year 4 routines. What a fantastic start to the year!
