School Newsletter : 20 September 2024
| Issue 2 | Autumn 1 | Week 2 |
Reminders!
- School starts promptly at 08:55 each morning. The pupil gates are open from 08:40 – 08:55 – please ensure you are on time!
- Pupils who arrive after the main gates are closed will need to be signed into school via the InVentry system in the main office. Pupils in Years 1 – 6 will then make their way to classes. Pupils in the Preschool, Nursery and Reception classes will be taken to classes by a member of staff.
- Please ensure that you are on time each day, as pupils who arrive after 09:00 have missed handwriting and those arriving after 09:10 have missed handwriting and Fluent in Five. Every minute of our day is utilised and poor punctuality leads to gaps and children arriving midway into learning. Please help us to ensure your child maximises all learning on offer, and to minimise disruption to teaching and learning through pupils arriving late.
- School finishes at 15:30 each day. The Pupil gates will open at 15:25.
- Extended School Day runs from 15:30 – 16:30. Please ensure that pupils who have a sports activity BRING their PE kit to school on that day to change into before their club.
- After School Club finishes at 18:00. Please be there by 17:55 to collect your child/ren.
- All School uniform MUST be labelled with your child’s name.
- Children need to bring their book bag to school every day.
Wrap Around Provision: Autumn Term 2024
There is high demand for Breakfast Club and After School places this term. If you still require places for your child/ren in any of our wrap-around clubs, please complete an application form, available to collect from the school office.
We will try our very best to accommodate your request. If there are no spaces available, you will be added to a waiting list in order of when you’ve applied.
After-School Club Collection Times:
- Please make sure that your child is collected by 18:00 (6pm) each day that they are enrolled for this club. If you’re late collecting your child/ren, a late fee of £5 for every 5 minutes will be payable.
- If you are running late, please call the school office before 18:00 (6pm) to inform staff.
Breakfast Club:
- Please ensure your child is on time for breakfast club.
- The final service time is 08:25, to ensure the children have time to eat without rushing (eg: 15 mins) before they go to their classes at 08:40.
Autumn Term Wrap-Around Club Dates:
- Breakfast Club @ 07:45 – 08:45: Starting Tuesday 3rd September and finishes on Friday 20th December.
- Extended School Day Clubs @15:30 – 16:30: These will start Monday 16th September and finish on Thursday 12th December (see further information below)
- After School Club @ 15:30 – 18:00: Starting Tuesday 3rd September and finishes on Thursday 19th December.
- If you have a place but do not utilise this/attend for more than 2 weeks, we will contact you to discuss your needs.
- If it is no longer needed, we will offer the space to someone on the waiting list.
Google Classroom and IXL Access
- This Friday you will receive your child’s Reading Record Book, which will contain your child’s login details for Google Classroom (Years Nursery – Year 6).
- This is where updates are posted, homework published, and weekly floor book updates (for the Early Years) are shared.
- For pupils in Years 1 – 6, you will also find their IXL login details, which pupils need to access their Maths and SPAG homework tasks.
- Please ensure you have logged in so you can receive this information.
- Please email or contact the school office if you have any issues.
School Photos
Kindly note that school photographs will be taken on Tuesday 24th AND Wednesday 25th of September.
All pupils will have their individual photographs taken. If you would also like to have sibling photographs, please email the school office by Friday 20th September to inform them of this request.
Please ensure that they are wearing their full school uniform on both days, including the correct shoes eg black school shoes. You can find a list of the correct full school uniform here: https://burdettcoutts.co.uk/school-life/uniforms/
If your child has PE on either of those days, they will need to bring their PE kit to school with them to change into on this occasion. If you have any queries about the correct school uniform, or regarding bringing their PE kit, please email the school office.
Jeans For Genes Day!
On Friday 20th September we will be celebrating Jeans for Genes Day at school!
Pupils are invited to wear jeans, and we are asking for a £1 donation to the Jeans for Genes charity. This can be paid to the office or collected at the gate on Friday morning.
Over the week we will be learning about different genetic conditions and how they affect people in many ways. Please see below some ideas in which you can wear your jeans.
We look forward to seeing the children’s outfits on Friday!
PE Lessons
Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct PE kit to school each week on their allocated PE day. Pupils who are not wearing their full PE kit will not be able to participate in lessons, and a note will be sent home indicating why they were not able to participate.
Please ensure that all items of school uniform are clearly labelled with either a permanent pen or label.
The full PE Kit for the Autumn/Winter Term is as follows:
- Plain navy blue leggings or tracksuit bottoms
- School navy blue PE t-shirt
- School navy blue sweatshirt (all year groups)*

- Wednesday: Reception & Year 5
- Thursday: Year 6
- Friday: Year 1 & Year 2

Biscuit Bytes
Woof….
Hey everyone,
What a busy week and it hasn’t it just flown by?!
It was great to see all the clubs start this week, although I am disappointed that once again I cannot join in with Cooking Club. Honestly, I really think i would be FANTASTIC with the cleaning up! Yummy..
I did have fun joining in with playtimes this week, playing chase and having lots of children throw me the ball and give me hugs. It’s definitely my favourite way to spend my mornings!
I am looking forward to reading groups starting next week, and can’t wait to start listening to children reading each day. I have my reading bean bag all ready to sit down while you read.
Have a wonderful weekend and see you Monday.
Love Biscuit x
Accelerated Reader Program
We are very excited to announce that we are now part of the Accelerated Reader program, for children in Years 1 to 6.
Accelerated Reader encourages children to read regularly, while ensuring that they bring home a book appropriate to their reading level. There are three steps to the program:
1. Pupils complete a star assessment which informs us of their reading level
2. They choose a reading book from the library, appropriate to their reading level
3. After they’ve read the book, they complete an online quiz about the it. The children earn points for the quizzes that they complete.
Pupils can log into the Accelerated Reader portal @ https://global-zone61.renaissance-go.com/welcomeportal/2243804
They can also log in by clicking on the Accelerated Reader link found at the top right hand corner of our website (in between Staff Login and Sooper Books).
Please click the image below for information about Accelerated Reader, or click here for a PDF >

Online Safety
Did you know that not all apps are safe for children, with many popular ones having certain age restrictions. For example, WhatsApp, Tik Tok, Instagram and Facebook operate a minimum age of 13+ years, and therefore primary school children should not have their own, nor access to, such apps or accounts.
As parents, you can help safeguard your children online by researching these apps and their purposes, as well as their age restrictions, BEFORE agreeing to download them. If you do choose to download them, remember that parental controls such as password protection, can be set up so that in-app downloads or purchases, cannot be completed by the children themselves.
For example, to prevent iTunes, Apple App Store purchases or downloads, all you need to do is:
- Go to Settings and tap Screen Time.
- Tap Content & App Privacy Restrictions. If asked, enter your passcode.
- Tap iTunes & App Store Purchases.
- Select a setting and set to Don’t Allow.
Tips on how to install parental controls on other apps and devices (Android or Apple) can easily be found online, or even from the app developers themselves.

Funding eligibility letter for Pupil Premium, Early Years Funding & Free School Meals
Due to changes in the eligibility criteria for Pupil Premium, Free School Meals and qualifying for 30 hours of funding for Nursery provision, many pupils currently enrolled at our school may now be entitled to one of these funding allocations.
We will be issuing letters to families who are currently not in receipt of the above, asking you to complete the registration for the identified funding option your child/ren maybe eligible for. Thank you so much in advance for your help in completing this.
This funding allows us to increase additional staffing hours to run booster groups, and an exciting range of extended day activities, that benefit our school and your child, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated at this difficult time for school budgets.
- If you should have any queries with regards to the letter sent to you, please contact Mrs Deary or the school office.
Preschool:
Our week in Preschool has been amazing! We explored lots of fun activities and welcomed new friends to our class. A highlight of our week was using our hands to explore paint – getting messy and creative was SO much fun! We also had a great time experimenting with different textures such as foam shapes, practicing our cutting skills as we created wonderful pieces of art. It’s been a fantastic week of discovery and creativity.
Nursery:
Everyone has settled in so well to Nursery, forming lovely friendships and becoming more comfortable and confident in their new environment. We’ve had lots of fun, especially at our creative table, where the children enjoyed building houses and identifying different members of their families through their artwork. It’s been wonderful to see their creativity blossom and watch them bond over shared activities!
Reception:
The bonds of friendship have been growing in Reception this week. The children have played multiple team orientated games to strengthen their confidence within the group and to help them feel unified. They were challenged to move a big hula hoop around the classroom without letting it drop and they had a brilliant time doing it. Go team Reception!
Year 1:
Year 1 have been having lots of fun revisiting and learning about The Three Little Pigs, through Science! We have been learning all about the different materials they used to build their houses and re-created an art piece of The Three Little Pigs houses.
Year 2:
As Mathematicians, Year 2 are focusing on place value for the first weeks of the term. Pupils have learnt a variety of ways in which they can represent numbers up to 100. This has included using base 10, part-whole models, rekenreks, 10s frames, place value grids, numbers and words. They have demonstrated a fabulous understanding of these various ways when partitioning numbers into tens and ones to find out how many tens and how many ones are in a two-digit number. They understood that if, for example, 32 is made of ‘3 whole tens’ and ‘2 ones’, then the 3 represents 30 and the 2 represents 2. Therefore, 32 can be partitioned into 3 tens and 2 ones or 30 and 2 but they also learnt how to partition numbers flexibly by exchanging tens for ones so 32 can also be partitioned into 20 and 12 or 10 and 22.
Year 3:
Year 3 has worked hard to use conjunctions, prepositions and adverbs to sequence the story of The Mousehole Cat. We used pictures from the story and a selection of words to piece the story together. This has helped us consider how to use these types of words when writing our own stories. Over next week, we are going to write stories featuring Mowzer and Old Tom and are thinking about different adventures that these characters can go on. We are hoping to share these with another class when they are finished! We have also completed our first prehistoric art, using charcoal to scale our sketches up.
Year 4:
Year 4 has had a wonderful couple of weeks learning about all things Roman, as part of our History topic this half term. The children thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to go on trips to Fulham Palace and The British Museum. We attended a workshop where we explored the deep history of Fulham Palace and the impact the Roman conquest had on this historic site. The children loved looking at all the fascinating Roman artefacts and learning about the Roman Empire during our visit to the British Museum.
Year 5:
Well, we are all back in the swing of things! We have just finished some excellent artwork, sketching and using pencils. The children designed their own Mead Halls, which were great banqueting halls created in the Anglo Saxon period, and this of course relates to our class text Beowulf by Michael Morpurgo. We have visited the library, and all children have a book of their choice which they should read at home for at least 15 minutes each day. Please check that your child is practising their spelling too, for the weekly test on Fridays. In addition, they need to practice the recommended skills on IXL each day for both Maths and English. It really does help embed their knowledge and build their confidence.
Year 6:
This week in Science, we have continued learning all about electricity and its many wonders! We now know the symbols of the different components within an electrical circuit and are able to explain their functions. We also began to explore the different types of energy transfer within some of the components. For example, the transfer of energy from chemical to electric within a circuit and how electric motors will convert electrical energy from batteries into kinetic energy. This kinetic energy can be used to spin the blades of a fan or move electric cars.
