Harvest Service & Donations
A reminder that our Harvest Service will be on Wednesday 9th October at 10:00 in St. Stephens Church. Parents & carers, if you’re attending, please be seated by 09:55. Please remember to switch your phones off.
We are still collecting items of non-perishable food items, sanitary and toiletry products and infant care products for our Harvest Collection this year.
Thank you to all those generous donations that have already come into school this week. If you can contribute an item, please bring it into school by 09:00 on Wednesday 9th October and place it on our Harvest table just by the Ground Floor Hall doors (internal doors).
We will be donating all these items to a local charity to assist those requiring additional support at this time.
Reminders!
- School starts promptly at 08:55 each morning. The pupil gates are open from 08:40 – 08:55 – please ensure you are on time!
- Pupils who arrive after the main gates are closed will need to be signed into school via the InVentry system in the main office. Pupils in Years 1 – 6 will then make their way to classes. Pupils in the Preschool, Nursery and Reception classes will be taken to classes by a member of staff.
- Please ensure that you are on time each day, as pupils who arrive after 09:00 have missed handwriting and those arriving after 09:10 have missed handwriting and Fluent in Five. Every minute of our day is utilised and poor punctuality leads to gaps and children arriving midway into learning. Please help us to ensure your child maximises all learning on offer, and to minimise disruption to teaching and learning through pupils arriving late.
- School finishes at 15:30 each day. The pupil gates will open at 15:25.
- Extended School Day runs from 15:30 – 16:30. Please ensure that pupils who have a sports activity BRING their PE kit to school on that day to change into before their club.
- After School Club finishes at 18:00. Please be there by 17:55 to collect your child/ren.
- All School uniform MUST be labelled with your child’s name.
- Children need to bring their book bag to school every day.
Google Classroom and IXL Access
- You will have all received your child’s Reading Record Book, which contains your child’s login details for Google Classroom (Years Nursery – Year 6).
- This is where updates are posted, homework published, and weekly floor book updates (for the Early Years) are shared.
- For pupils in Years 1 – 6, you will also find their IXL login details, which pupils need to access their Maths and SPAG homework tasks.
- Please ensure you have logged in so you can receive this information.
- Please email or contact the school office if you have any issues.
When logging in to your child’s Google Classroom, you need to ensure any other gmail accounts are signed out of, or alternatively open in a new browser.
Out and About…..
Thursday 3rd October: Year 1 Trip to the Museum of Childhood
Year 1 enjoyed their trip to the Museum of Childhood this week, with a real ‘hands on’ opportunity to align learning and understanding of their History unit about ‘Toys from the Past‘. They enjoyed seeing lots of different toys and most importantly playing with them! The pupils participated in a paper folding art activity whilst there, which was a little bit fiddly to start but successful in the end. It was noted by our teachers and members of the public that the pupils were very well behaved and responsibly followed their teachers when moving around the transport system. Well done Year 1!
Monday 24th September: Year 2 Trip to Buckingham Palace, The Kings Gallery
Year 2 enjoyed an enriching trip to the King’s Gallery, where they explored the fascinating world of portrait art. As part of their visit, they participated in an engaging workshop called Comparing Portraits, which focused on analysing royal portraits and discovering how visual and tactile qualities of processes used by artists convey mood, ideas, feelings and historical narratives.
Through discussion, they compared images from the Royal Portraits: A Century of Photography exhibition, learning how portraiture has shaped public perceptions of the Royal Family from the 1920s to the present day. During the workshop, pupils were provided with a sketchbook and pencil and had the unique opportunity to sit in front of a royal portrait in the gallery and sketch it.
Afterwards, they moved to a room where they traced their sketches and brought them to life using oil pastels. The children’s enthusiasm and impeccable behaviour were praised by gallery staff and members of the public. A huge well done to our Year 2 children for representing the school so well!
Winter Wonderland: Entries Extended to 9 October
Jeans For Genes Day: Thank you for your support!
A HUGE thank you to everyone who supported this important fundraising event and donating for our non-uniform day.
We raised £120.00, a wonderful contribution that will further assist in the work being done in gene research, helping to save and improve the lives of those with serious illness.
MacMillan Fundraising Event & School Open Morning
We had a wonderful time fundraising for MacMillan, plus the added bonus of linking with a whole school open morning for our parents.
It was really wonderful to see many parents & carers dropping into classes and having the opportunity to see their child/ren’s learning space. It was also lovely to have parents stop by in the ground floor hall to meet and mingle with other parents, and of course partake in tea, coffee and cake!
On this occasion we raised £150.00 which will be donated to MacMillan Cancer Research. Thank you once again for your generous support with national fund-raising events.
PE Lessons
Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct PE kit to school each week on their allocated PE day.
Pupils not wearing their full PE kit will not be able to participate in lessons, and a note will be sent home indicating why they were not able to participate.
Please ensure that all items of school uniform are clearly labelled with either a permanent pen or label.
The full PE Kit for the Autumn/Winter Term is as follows:
- Plain navy blue leggings or tracksuit bottoms
- School navy blue PE t-shirt
- School navy blue sweatshirt (all year groups)*
- Plain black trainers (velcro or slip on if they can not do their laces).
* Kindly note: Pupils in KS2 (Years 3-6) must wear a school sweatshirt for PE lessons and not the v-neck jumper from their main school uniform.
Autumn Term PE Lessons:
- Monday: Year 4
- Tuesday: Year 3
- Wednesday: Reception & Year 5
- Thursday: Year 6
- Friday: Year 1 & Year 2

Biscuit Bytes
Woof….
Hi BC families & friends.
Well Autumn has certainly arrived this week. It is beautiful walking in the parks at the moment, with lots of leavings to throw and kick about!
It’s also conker season and I have seen many children collecting these in the parks. Please be careful not to leave them lying around younger children as they can be a choking hazard, and if you are tying string around them to play conkers, please take care not to hit anyone or yourself with them.
It was so nice to see lots of parents here this week visiting the children’s classes. There is some wonderful work on display across the school that they have been busy creating. I was sad however that I wasn’t allowed to participate in the MacMillan coffee morning, especially as I LOVE CAKE!
Have a wonderful weekend and paws crossed there’s no rain!
Love Biscuit x
Accelerated Reader Program
We are very excited to announce that we are now part of the Accelerated Reader program, for children in Years 1 to 6.
Accelerated Reader encourages children to read regularly, while ensuring that they bring home a book appropriate to their reading level. There are three steps to the program:
1. Pupils complete a star assessment which informs us of their reading level
2. They choose a reading book from the library, appropriate to their reading level
3. After they’ve read the book, they complete an online quiz about the it. The children earn points for the quizzes that they complete.
Pupils can log into the Accelerated Reader portal @ https://global-zone61.renaissance-go.com/welcomeportal/2243804
They can also log in by clicking on the Accelerated Reader link found at the top right hand corner of our website (in between Staff Login and Sooper Books).

Online Safety
Did you know that not all apps are safe for children, with many popular ones having certain age restrictions. For example, WhatsApp, Tik Tok, Instagram and Facebook operate a minimum age of 13+ years, and therefore primary school children should not have their own, nor access to, such apps or accounts.
As parents, you can help safeguard your children online by researching these apps and their purposes, as well as their age restrictions, BEFORE agreeing to download them. If you do choose to download them, remember that parental controls such as password protection, can be set up so that in-app downloads or purchases, cannot be completed by the children themselves.
For example, to prevent iTunes, Apple App Store purchases or downloads, all you need to do is:
- Go to Settings and tap Screen Time.
- Tap Content & App Privacy Restrictions. If asked, enter your passcode.
- Tap iTunes & App Store Purchases.
- Select a setting and set to Don’t Allow.
Tips on how to install parental controls on other apps and devices (Android or Apple) can easily be found online, or even from the app developers themselves.

Funding eligibility letter for Pupil Premium, Early Years Funding & Free School Meals
Due to changes in the eligibility criteria for Pupil Premium, Free School Meals and qualifying for 30 hours of funding for Nursery provision, many pupils currently enrolled at our school may now be entitled to one of these funding allocations.
We will be issuing letters to families who are currently not in receipt of the above, asking you to complete the registration for the identified funding option your child/ren maybe eligible for. Thank you so much in advance for your help in completing this.
This funding allows us to increase additional staffing hours to run booster groups, and an exciting range of extended day activities, that benefit our school and your child, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated at this difficult time for school budgets.
- If you should have any queries with regards to the letter sent to you, please contact Mrs Deary or the school office.
Preschool:
In Preschool we have had a wonderful time exploring the story Baby Goes to Market. After reading the book together, the children stepped into their own pretend market right in the classroom. They played with baby dolls, practiced counting with pretend money, and shopped for fruits and vegetables. This fun, hands-on activity helped them develop their social, language and math skills, while using their imaginations to bring the story to life!
Nursery:
This week, our Tuff Tray activities were all about the season Autumn! The children had so much fun exploring seasonal items like leaves, acorns, and pinecones. They enjoyed using their senses to feel the textures, spot different colours, and to create their own autumnal artwork.
Reception:
One of our mystery core texts this term is Elmer by David McKee. We used this text to really hone into how we can all look different. Not only does that make us special, but it is also something to be celebrated. We looked at our reflections and described to each other what we saw in the mirror, and what we love the most about ourselves.
Year 1:
Year 1 have been enjoying learning all about hard and soft materials in recent Science lessons. We have explored a variety of different materials, testing to see if they were soft or hard before classifying them into each group. During English lessons, we have been immersed in our new story, ‘Toys in Space‘. We have challenged ourself in Writing lessons by adding describing words in our sentences.
Year 2:
In PSHE, Year 2 have been exploring their hopes and worries for the year ahead. They are learning how to recognise when they feel worried, understand the importance of asking for help, and knowing who to turn to for support. They have also discussed the concept of rights and responsibilities; how to work together as a team, listen to one another, and contribute to making our classroom a safe and fair environment for everyone. Additionally, the children have been thinking about the impact of their choices and understanding the consequences that different decisions can bring.
Year 3:
Year 3 has been busy writing their continuations of The Mousehole Cat. We have been using our imagination to think of different adventures that Mowzer and Tom could go on! We used a hamburger template to plan our writing and the beginning, middle and end of the story. We thought up great new characters like the Great Volcano-Cat and are putting our own spin on things. It is so fun to see the different ways everyone is using these characters, and we can’t wait to read these to another class. On Tuesday, we started reading groups and are enjoying learning with different groups of people and reading different stories. In PSHE, we created our Dream School and decided that it’s one where bellies are full of delicious food, everyone is kind to one another, and we can support others in their learning.
Year 4:
Following our last two class trips, Year 4 have been busy learning more about the Roman Empire in their History lessons. Pupils have been drawing on information and artefacts seen during their trip to further learning in the classroom. In Science, we have been applying new knowledge about the digestive system and more importantly, how to look after it. We created some wonderful models of the digestive system, labelling all the respective organs.
Year 5:
This term, our R.E. focus is Sanatana Dharma also known as Hinduism. We are considering what is the best way for Sanatanas to show commitment to God. We are learning how Hindus worship, both at home and in their temples, and have discovered that while Brahman is their supreme deity, they also worship other gods who represent Brahman’s qualities. We know that the Puja Tray is an important part of Hindu worship and that each object has a special and holy significance, with each object representing one of the senses. We also learnt that the food that is offered to the gods is later eaten, as it has been blessed.
Year 6:
This week in English, Year 6 have been writing diary entries from the perspective of Tommo (one of the main characters in the book we’re currently reading, Private Peaceful). We have tried hard to include descriptive language and use a variety of sentence structures to create a lasting impact in the reader’s mind. For example, we have used short sentences in the style of the author, and dashes to create tension and a pause for drama. Happy reading!
