Celebrating Kindness Kings & Queens!

At the end of half-term, we crowned our school’s Kindness Kings & Queens, celebrating students who consistently show kindness and compassion. From sharing a smile to helping a classmate, these young leaders have demonstrated the power of positivity.
We honoured these shining examples of empathy and generosity through fun activities and heartfelt recognition. Let’s continue spreading kindness and making our school a place where everyone feels valued and supported.
Keep being kind, and remember, kindness makes us all royalty!
Internet Safety & Prevent Parent/Carer Coffee Morning
Thank you to our parents who attended our first Online Safety Workshop with Julie, the Prevent Educational Officer from Westminster Council. It was a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and learn!
We’re excited for our next workshop which will be held on Wednesday, March 12th at 9am. Be sure to join us for another informative session, with coffee, tea, and biscuits provided.
Workshop Overview:
- In today’s digital and social world, our children are more connected than ever. However, with greater access comes greater responsibility.
- To help learn how to support your children online, all parents & carers are warmly invited to please join us for two engaging parent workshops where we will explore Online Safety and the Prevent Strategy.
- We will share essential tips on protecting your child from online risks, managing screen time, fostering healthy digital habits and building resilience against online threats and radicalisation.
Both sessions are designed for parents and carers of all year levels, with expert advice from Julie, the Prevent Education Officer from Westminster City Council, sharing most-recent data, real-world strategies, and a chance to ask questions.
Let’s work together to create a safer online world and support our children in making informed resilient choices.
Workshop 2: Prevent Strategy
- Spring 2, Week 3 on Wednesday 12th March
- Ground Floor Hall @ 9:00am
- Don’t miss this opportunity to stay informed and empowered!
- We look forward to seeing you there.
World Book Day 2025

On Thursday 6th March, we will be celebrating World Book Day at school. Pupils are invited to mark this day of celebrating reading and literacy by dressing up as a favourite book inspired character from a range of reading genres including:
- Fairy Tales, Disney Stories, Horrid Henry, Toy Story etc
- Characters influenced from stories from popular authors such as Julia Donaldson, Michael Morpurgo and Roald Dahl
- Shakespearian, Medieval (Knights), Regal (Kings and Queens) or Victorian influenced characters
- Marvel, DC or other superhero characters.
- Please note: Football kits are not to be worn!
Throughout the day, children will take part in exciting literacy activities designed to inspire a love of reading. All pupils will receive a book token voucher that they can use in bookstores towards the purchase of a book.
There will also be prizes awarded for the most creative and original outfits in each year group. We can’t wait to see all the imaginative literacy themed outfits on Thursday!
Book Fair Reading Competition
Get Snapped Reading & WIN a £5 Book Fair voucher!
Our annual book fair will take place from Friday 28th March to Friday 4th April. To create a buzz around it there will be a competition from Nursery to Year 6 to promote our children’s love of reading and the vast number of reading opportunities that we all have in our daily lives.
To enter the competition, all pupils need to do is to send in a photograph of themselves reading anything – a favourite book, comic, recipe, menu, instructions, signs etc – and anywhere, at home, at play, or even out and about.
All photographs will be displayed in classrooms and reading areas around school and all submissions will be put into a draw to win a £5 Book Fair voucher! There are 5 vouchers to be won, and the lucky winners will be announced in assembly on Monday 24th March.
Due to the large numbers of photos we hope to receive, we would really appreciate it if photographs could be printed off and brought into class. If this is not possible, photos can be emailed to office@burdettcoutts.co.uk
We look forward to seeing all your lovely photos, and thank you for your support.
WINTER IS HERE!

Please ensure that all children wear a jacket to school, and have a hat. Gloves and scarves are optional, but are highly recommended as it starts to get much colder.
All pupils should now be wearing their full winter uniform and no longer in their summer uniform options, including PE uniform.
Please ensure all items of clothing including jumpers and sweaters are named!
Many thanks for your continued support.

Online Safety

Did you know that not all apps are safe for children, with many popular ones having certain age restrictions. For example, WhatsApp, Tik Tok, Instagram and Facebook operate a minimum age of 13+ years, and therefore primary school children should not have their own, nor access to, such apps or accounts.
As parents, you can help safeguard your children online by researching these apps and their purposes, as well as their age restrictions, BEFORE agreeing to download them. If you do choose to download them, remember that parental controls such as password protection, can be set up so that in-app downloads or purchases, cannot be completed by the children themselves.
For example, to prevent iTunes, Apple App Store purchases or downloads, all you need to do is:
- Go to Settings and tap Screen Time.
- Tap Content & App Privacy Restrictions. If asked, enter your passcode.
- Tap iTunes & App Store Purchases.
- Select a setting and set to Don’t Allow.
Tips on how to install parental controls on other apps and devices (Android or Apple) can easily be found online, or even from the app developers themselves.

Funding eligibility letter for Pupil Premium, Early Years Funding & Free School Meals

Due to changes in the eligibility criteria for Pupil Premium, Free School Meals and qualifying for 30 hours of funding for Nursery provision, many pupils currently enrolled at our school may now be entitled to one of these funding allocations.
We will be issuing letters to families who are currently not in receipt of the above, asking you to complete the registration for the identified funding option your child/ren maybe eligible for. Thank you so much in advance for your help in completing this.
This funding allows us to increase additional staffing hours to run booster groups, and an exciting range of extended day activities, that benefit our school and your child, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated at this difficult time for school budgets.
- If you should have any queries with regards to the letter sent to you, please contact Mrs Deary or the school office.
Preschool:

This week in Preschool, we’ve been diving into the vibrant world of colours through the story ‘Wow Said the Owl’. Inspired by the curious little owl’s discoveries, the children have been exploring a rainbow of colours and learning sign language for each one. To bring our colourful journey to life, we collaborated on a stunning rainbow artwork.
Nursery:

Nursery have been having lots of fun with numeracy activities! The children practiced counting, ordering, and matching objects to numbers. Together, we created a number line and carefully placed each number in the correct spot. The children then matched ladybird dots to the numbers on the number line, making learning both interactive and enjoyable!
Reception:

Reception have been exploring measuring time, focusing on analogue clocks. Using a large display on our screen, we introduced the clock face, the movement of the hands, and how numbers help us tell the time. To bring this to life, the children recreated their own clock using Numicon on a cable reel, working out number placement and how the hands move to show different times. They took turns setting the clock, challenging each other to read and change the time; building confidence, problem-solving skills, and a deeper understanding of time in a fun, hands-on way. A fantastic week of learning!
Year 1:

Year 1 have been exploring the changing seasons and how the weather affects the world around us. Through hands-on activities, they’ve learned to identify the characteristics of each season and how they impact plants, animals, and daily life. The children are excited to share their knowledge and observations as they observe the seasons in real time!
Year 2:

In PSHE, Year 2 have been learning about setting realistic goals, persevering through challenges and understanding the importance of teamwork. They’ve reflected on their personal strengths as learners and discussed how to work well in a group, focusing on collaboration and supporting one another. Pupils worked with partners to create their own imaginary birds for a ‘Garden of Dreams and Goals’. Using a range of materials, they designed and created their dream birds while practicing essential team skills, such as communication, problem-solving and sharing ideas. By the end of the activity, they had not only created their dream birds but also learned valuable lessons about working together, appreciating each other’s strengths, and celebrating their achievements. The focus was on how working in a team can help everyone achieve their goals and how it feels to share successes with others.
Year 3:

This week, Year 3 returned with a ready attitude and an excitement for learning. We have started strong with our new Writing subject, where we are using subordinating clauses and paragraphs to retell the story of Megacity. In this short film, a young man named Jack busks on the streets of a big city with his dog, saving up to move to the countryside. We have practiced using subordinating conjunctions and will use these sentences in our writing. This topic links very clearly to our new Geography learning, all about town and country. So far, we have looked at different parts of the United Kingdom, and used Venn diagrams to compare and contrast between the city and the countryside.
Year 4:

This week in Year 4, we’ve started some exciting new topics. In Science, we’ve begun exploring the fascinating world of classifying animals. The students have been enjoying learning about different categories and how we group animals based on their characteristics. In RE, we’ve been diving into the theme of forgiveness. The class had a blast roleplaying various scenarios, discussing the importance of forgiveness, and how it impacts our relationships. It’s been a week full of discovery and fun learning!
Year 5:

Welcome back to Spring 2, it’s been so great to see the children back and full of energy for this term! Our focus in Geography, Reading and Writing is based around climate change. We will be exploring coasts around the world and the impact of water, specifically coastal erosion. In Writing this week, we have become researchers to answer our questions about climate change. This information will inform our non-chronological reports that we are writing next week. It’s been great to see the children carefully selecting websites and fact checking their results as they research their questions.
Year 6:

This week as Scientists we have been learning all about the components of our blood and its function. Our blood is made up of red and white blood cells, plasma and platelets. Blood has many different functions including:
- transporting oxygen and nutrients to the lungs and tissues
- forming blood clots to prevent excess blood loss
- carrying cells and antibodies that fight infection
- bringing waste products to the kidneys and liver, which filter and clean the blood
- regulating body temperature.
Next week, we will be making our own blood and deepening our understanding of the role that it plays in keeping us healthy.
