Goodbye from Mrs Dyer!

Goodbye from Mrs Dyer!

Success isn’t about how much money you make, it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.”

Michelle Obama

Dear Burdett-Coutts school community:

It has been such a privilege and a pleasure to serve all of you as headteacher for the past 6 years. Sadly, due to COVID 19, I was unable to share my news with you in person following my interview and appointment earlier this year.

Today is my last day and I want you to know that I will miss you and your children very much indeed. Your cards, flowers, conversations and gifts are most appreciated. I have been completely overwhelmed by your generosity!

Parents and carers – thank you for bringing your children to our school and trusting us with them every day.  Parents’ involvement in their child’s education leads to more opportunities for success; the children at Burdett-Coutts have so many positive qualities and I know that this all starts at home.

Staff – thank you! You have gone above and beyond in your relentless pursuit to provide the highest quality of education and opportunity for every child. Your commitment and dedication is inspiring.  Each and every one of you – the catering team, the site manager, the office team, the teaching assistants, our volunteers and the teachers contribute to improving the life chances of the pupils. You are an outstanding team.

However, the beating heart of a school lies in its pupils!

Children – your efforts, behaviour, diligence, kindness and achievements enrich our lives. Please continue to demonstrate the school values of friendship, compassion and service and to live out the vision “I can do all things through HIM who gives me strength”.

Please reflect on the words of Marianne Williamson:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.

We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

Year 6 – you have aspired, endeavoured and achieved and, I have no doubt that you will continue to do so, as you travel on your life journeys. Remember that wherever your future leads you, we will be watching and cheering for you. Believe in yourselves and strive for excellence – you are indeed powerful beyond measure!

September will be a seismic change for me and as I make the leap into the unknown, I will draw inspiration from my time at Burdett-Coutts. All of you have a special place in my heart and I will remember each of you with great fondness and affection.

May God bless you and be with you forever.

Mrs Dyer
